On Wednesday 2nd April, RiskSTOP Group welcomed learners and staff from Autism Unlimited to Mey House to mark Autism Awareness Day and give colleagues across the business a chance to learn more about autism, hear directly from autistic individuals, and spend time with the team from Autism Unlimited.

The Brew Crew Coffee Van, operated by Autism Unlimited learners, was parked up and serving freshly brewed coffee and cookies throughout the day.

More than just a great excuse to grab a latte, the Brew Crew offered colleagues a chance to interact with the students and show support for the work Autism Unlimited does to build life skills and confidence in young people.

"Today’s Autism Awareness event meant a lot to me, both personally and professionally," said Charlotte Lillington, Web Developer and Brand Manager at RiskSTOP Group.

"As someone who’s autistic, it is great to see the genuine interest and support from everyone across RiskSTOP Group. Having Autism Unlimited learners join us to share their stories and experiences was incredibly powerful."

Insight into day-to-day life on the spectrum

A series of talks took place throughout the day, delivered by Autism Unlimited learners. These short, personal accounts offered insight into day-to-day life on the spectrum and the different ways autism can present in individuals.

A resource table was also available, offering information about autism and the support offered by Autism Unlimited. A representative from the charity was on hand to answer questions from employees, whether for themselves, a colleague, or a family member.

The event was the latest in a series of collaborative initiatives between RiskSTOP Group and Autism Unlimited. From mock interviews to CV workshops, internet safety sessions, and funding for an Esports studio, the partnership continues to create opportunities for meaningful engagement.

Events like Autism Awareness Day provide a valuable space to listen, learn and keep the conversation going, one step at a time.
